Back from the dead

It's been almost two months since I updated here. Two months. I don't even have a particularly good excuse. I did disappear for almost two weeks in late july/early august when the family went on vacation; first to Krakow, and then to the Swedish west coast. Other than that I've mostly spent my time reading and actually haven't been online as often as I usually am. Which still doesn't explain my absence, especially since I have been doing some stuff as well...

A short breakdown of life right now: I've been back at uni since monday, and am taking a course in the history and culture of ancient Egypt *point to new icon*. It's really interesting so far, to have everything I learnt (and didn't learn) as a child filtered through an academic lens. My nine-year-old self would be happy to know that while I'm not exactly fulfilling her dream of becoming an egyptologist I'm doing the next best thing. :P

I've been reading a lot these last couple of months; most notably, I started the Rivers of London series (am eagerly awaiting the release of Foxglove Summer this month!!) and have picked up Discworld again for the first time in years (the City Watch books are so good! How did I manage to miss them? I've only read the first three so far but they're really wonderful).

As for Doctor Who, I am loving the new series. For the first time in ages I am actually... looking forward to new episodes. Peter Capaldi is just lovely, Clara has really grown into her own and the episodes have been good. V. strange. Am tentatively eyeing the 12th Doctor novels to be released next week. >___>

I'm going to try to be more attentive now when summer is over, even if it's just making short life updates.

Welcome back!

I'm loving Doctor Who, as well.

And yay! I'm really sort of floored. Deep Breath was a very promising start, but for the next two weeks I kept thinking: oh, it's a Dalek episode, it's probably no good and oh, it's written by Mark Gatiss, I probably won't like it. And both times I've not just been positively surprised, but practically enamoured. I don't know what's going on but pls let it continue.

I hope you continue to enjoy things!

Hello! *waves*

Good luck with the new semester - and glad you're loving DW! I'm enjoying it, too (but then I usually do, I'm such a damned Pollyanna, heh). :-)

Hi! :D

The new course is a lot more text-based than the last one, which is on one hand nice because everything I need to know is in the text books and I don't have to attend strictly every lecture. On the other it might get a bit meandering in the long run. :/ But our teacher is fun and I like the subject.

I've been really unable to engage with New Who since series 6, so actually being... invested again is... strange. And nice. I like liking Doctor Who. :3 Twelve is such a grump and he has the potential for some very interesting character development and interaction (as seems to be hinted in Into the Dalek with Danny Pink and the soldier theme).

Hello stranger:)

Yay to new Who:) Wish 12 would pull better faces for iconing tho'!

Yay to new New Who! And new Big Finish Who, and other Whos I haven't been that into over the summer but who are nestling their way into my heart again.

Funny faces or srs faces? I think Robots of Sherwood had plenty of the former and the latter. And now I got a strange urge to try to make icons...

There are good funny faces I'll use if/when I get round to it, but they're outweighed by not very attractive faces. Twelve should become magically telepathic to make iconning easier- I'm trying to make him look good!

Make him look good? He looks great! He has great facial expressions.

Heh, never underestimate the ability of the ghost in the machine to grab dozens of silly screencaps of otherwise normal looking people, to send to the recycle bin. I think Clara is really a robot as apart looking occasionally angry she looks beautiful in screenshots. Go on girl, gurn! Everyone else does!

Oh, please do make some icons!

I've made 31 icons so far-- mostly pretty simple colour edits because I'm lazy but I might play around more once I've made all the bases I want.

So yes, there will most likely be some Robots of Sherwood icons posted this weekend. :)

City Watch = <3! What books have you caught up with?
(on the contrary, I am not feeling the Rivers of London love at all :S the series didn't work for me to the extend where I don't want to continue with the second book.)

Guards! Guards!, Men At Arms and Feet of Clay; I've been promised that I'll be able to borrow the rest from a friend, but our schedules constantly clash so not sure when that'll be. I read several Discworld novels years ago, but I never really got into the world so to speak until now. Maybe it's because I'm older now, maybe I just like the themes of social dynamics and oppression the City Watch books bring up better.

(It definitely has its flaws, but I feel they have interesting enough world-building plus I found them entertaining and easy to read. I have a friend who's really into them, which certainly helps. :P If you didn't like the first book it's probably a good thing you didn't continue though, because I found both book two and three inferior to the first one.)

I am also loving the new series so far.

(Your icon is awesome and surpsisingly appropriate to your post title.)

(Isn't it though? It's from this post and I've had it on my computer for ages, just waiting for the perfect time to use it.)
